Agtech software development for Australian startups and agribusinesses
Aideveloper builds field apps that keep working without signal, sensor and IoT platforms, traceability systems and AI tools for agtech founders and farm businesses. We're a Brisbane team, and you own the code.
Talk about your agtech buildWhat we buildWho we build for
This page is about building agtech products. If you want to use AI in your own farm or ag operation, see agriculture AI services.
Agtech startups
Founders turning agronomy, livestock or supply-chain know-how into a product. We take you from prototype to an MVP and an on-farm pilot. See also software development for startups.
Agribusinesses
Growers, processors, packers and service providers who need custom software their off-the-shelf systems can't provide, connected to the tools they already use.
What we build
Farm software has to cope with patchy coverage, dust, gloves and seasonal staff. We design for those conditions from the start.
Offline-first field apps
Mobile apps that capture records, photos and checklists with no signal and sync safely when coverage returns, with conflict handling so no data is lost.
Sensor and IoT platforms
Ingest data from sensors, gateways and controllers, then clean it, store it and alert on exceptions. Dashboards show what needs attention, not every reading.
Traceability
Batch, lot and movement records from paddock to pack-out, with audit trails and exports for buyers and certification schemes.
AI agents and RAG for agronomy documents
Ask questions across labels, SOPs, trial reports and agronomy notes and get answers that cite their sources. Agents can draft records and reports, with a person approving them.
Computer vision for sheds and processing
Camera-based monitoring and inspection, tested on your own footage first. Our own product, Machine Pilot Vision (in beta), reads equipment screens and plant information. More on computer vision.
Agriculture app development
Grower, contractor and customer-facing apps for iOS, Android and the web, plus the admin portals behind them.
Works with your existing farm software
Most agribusinesses already run farm management, accounting and livestock or inventory systems. We connect to them rather than replace them.
- We use published APIs and data exports where they exist, and scheduled file imports where they don't.
- Each record has a clear system of record, so data isn't keyed in twice.
- We map fields, units and paddock or mob names before writing any code.
- If a vendor's API can't do what you need, we tell you early.
How we work
Discovery
Users, sites, connectivity, data sources and the one problem the first release must solve. You get a written scope and a technical approach.Prototype
A clickable prototype to test with growers or staff, and with investors, before production code is written.MVP
Short sprints with a working build each time, designed for offline use and real devices from day one.On-farm pilot
A pilot at one or a few sites, timed around the season, with monitoring and a feedback loop before you scale.
You own the code and IP
- Intellectual property in the work you pay for is assigned to your company.
- Repositories, cloud accounts and app store listings sit in your company's name.
- Your farm and customer data stays yours, and it's hosted in Australian regions where needed.
- You get documentation and a handover, so another team can take over.
Agtech grants and funding context
How a build is planned and documented can affect the support you can apply for. We keep records that help your adviser, and we time the work around funding rounds.
AgriFutures and growAG
AgriFutures Australia lists its current research funding opportunities, and growAG lists agrifood innovation opportunities and calls for partners.
Food Agility CRC
Food Agility CRC runs agrifood innovation services and an Agtech Finder.
R&D Tax Incentive
Eligible R&D activities may qualify for a tax offset, while routine software development is generally excluded. Changes announced in the 2026–27 Budget start from 1 July 2028, and current rules apply until then. See business.gov.au.
Queensland agtech
- The Queensland AgTech Roadmap 2023–2028 sets the state's plan for agtech innovation and adoption, through the Department of Primary Industries agtech program.
- Queensland Smart Farms: Gatton Smart Farm (horticulture, robotics, postharvest) and the Central Queensland Smart Cropping Centre in Emerald, where producers and agtech companies can trial technology.
- Advance Queensland: Advancing AgTech lists programs including the Sowing the Seed of Farming Innovation Fund and regional agtech enabler programs.
Programs open and close, so check each official page for current status. This is general information, not tax or financial advice. Speak to a registered tax agent or R&D adviser.
Relevant builds
Field hardware, offline apps and industrial AI we've built, plus illustrative agriculture scenarios.
RideScore Active Schools
A pilot built end to end by Smarterapps Ai: parent apps, an admin portal and a data platform, with Bluetooth beacons on bikes and readers at school bike cages. We sourced and installed the hardware at every pilot site. See projects
Machine Pilot
Our own industrial AI product. It turns manuals, SOPs, PLC exports and drawings into cited answers for operators. Machine Pilot Vision is in beta. machinepilot.app
Rideshare platform
A rider app, a driver app and an operations console used out in the field, with the client unnamed by agreement. Read the case study
Illustrative agriculture scenarios (examples of patterns, not client results): field signal to ops brief, livestock welfare alert assists, irrigation and spray decision assist, seasonal contractor handoffs.
Agtech software FAQ
How much does agriculture app development cost?
It depends on the platforms, offline needs, integrations and hardware involved. We don't quote blind: discovery produces a scope, and then we give a fixed price or a capped time-and-materials estimate.
Can the app work without mobile coverage?
Yes. We build offline-first, so data is stored on the device and syncs when coverage returns, with rules for resolving conflicts.
Do you work with sensors and hardware?
Yes. We integrate sensors, gateways, beacons and readers, and we've sourced and installed field hardware for a pilot. We'll tell you when an existing commercial device will do the job.
Will it connect to our farm management software?
Usually, through the vendor's API or data exports. We check what's possible during discovery, before you commit to a build.
Who owns the code and the data?
You do. IP in the work you pay for is assigned to your company, and the repositories, accounts and data sit in your name.
Are there agtech grants in Australia?
There are programs through bodies such as AgriFutures, the Queensland Government and the R&D Tax Incentive, but they open and close. Check the official pages and get advice from a registered tax agent. This isn't tax advice.
Do you work with agtech startups outside Queensland?
Yes. We're based in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, and work with founders and agribusinesses across Australia.
